Jennifer Davies

Jennifer Davies learned to knit from her mother as a child, and while she went on to work in public education for more than 25 years as an environmental educator, she was knitting up projects (especially hats!) as she went. Her passion for recycling and repurposing lead her to begin using the old aluminum needles & hooks for jewelry & accessories in 2010. She has found a use for all sizes of needles and hooks which can be smashed, bent, drilled, and cut to make wind chimes, ornaments, earrings, barrettes and more using the rainbow of colors they come in!

The company name, Bur Oak Studio, was inspired by a 300 year old tree, home to lots of local wildlife that was in the yard of the house she lived in. She gained so much joy watching the community in and around that tree, the name is a nod to the same kind of generational connections within the fiber community.

Honoring the makers that came before is one of Jennifer's favorite challenges and custom work is a passion! Her shows and classes have taken her from the county fair sheep barns to Vogue Knitting and from coast to coast! Her one stipulation for classes is that the participants have fun, and make something they like- to keep or to gift!
